That “it depends” answer from insurance agents drives me nuts, but it’s honestly the reality. The line between “occasional” and “regular” is way blurrier than most people realize. I’ve seen claims get denied just because a teen was driving more than a couple times a month and wasn’t listed. The premium hike stings, but the risk of being on the hook for a big accident is way worse. Is it fair? Maybe not, but insurance companies are all about minimizing their risk. If you’re wondering if it’s worth adding someone, ask yourself—how often are they really driving? If it’s more than just a rare thing, I wouldn’t chance it.
