Yeah, you're spot on about checking the fine print. I've seen similar situations happen more often than you'd think. Even if your friend has solid insurance, the specifics around borrowed vehicles can get pretty murky. One thing I'd suggest is calling your insurer directly and asking explicitly about coverage for lending your car—sometimes they'll clarify stuff that's buried in jargon. It's a bit of a hassle, but definitely beats dealing with surprises after something happens...

Good advice, but honestly, I wouldn't rely solely on a phone call. I've seen way too many cases where verbal info from customer service reps didn't match the actual policy wording. If things go south, insurers lean heavily on what's written, not what's said. Better to get an email or some kind of written confirmation—trust me, it'll save you headaches later on...

That's a solid point about getting written confirmation. I've had similar experiences where customer service reps gave me completely different info than what was actually in the policy. One time, I asked about coverage for a rental car, and the rep confidently told me "no worries, you're fully covered." But when I checked the fine print later, turns out there were all sorts of exclusions and limits that weren't mentioned on the call.

Honestly, even emails can sometimes be vague or generic. If you're really concerned, I'd suggest specifically asking them to reference the exact section or clause in your policy that covers lending your car out. That way, you can cross-check it yourself and know exactly where you stand. Has anyone here actually managed to get their insurer to clearly point out specific sections of their policy? Curious how cooperative they usually are with that...

I've actually had luck getting insurers to point out specific clauses, but it took some persistence. A couple years back, I lent my car to my brother for a weekend trip. Beforehand, I emailed my insurer asking explicitly for the exact policy section covering borrowed drivers. At first, they sent me a generic reply, but after pushing back politely and asking again, they finally referenced the exact clause. Definitely worth the extra effort to avoid surprises later...

You were pretty thorough, but honestly, insurers giving out exact clauses isn't always as reassuring as it sounds. I've seen cases where the policy wording is so vague or complicated that even when you have the clause in hand, interpreting it later still gets messy. Sure, pushing for specifics helps, but sometimes it's smarter just to assume lending your car comes with risks... clauses or no clauses. Policies aren't always clear-cut, unfortunately.
