It’s wild how the “park far away” trick almost guarantees someone will park right next to you—like it’s some kind of magnet. I get what you mean about the signs, too. Sometimes they just attract more attention than they prevent. I’ve spent way too many hours combing through insurance policies and still feel like I’m rolling the dice every time I leave my car anywhere public. At a certain point, you just have to accept a little risk, otherwise you’ll drive yourself nuts.

I get the whole “accept some risk” thing, but honestly, I’m not sure I can just shrug it off. After seeing a buddy’s Chevelle get keyed at a show, I started using a steering wheel lock and a dash cam, even if it feels a bit paranoid. Maybe it’s overkill, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Those insurance policies never seem to cover what you actually care about anyway...

I totally get where you’re coming from. I used to roll my eyes at steering wheel locks, but after my cousin’s Nova got a door ding the size of a tennis ball at a cruise-in, I started getting a little more cautious too. It’s wild how people can just mess with someone else’s pride and joy. Do you guys think it’s more about theft or just keeping the paint safe from random jerks? I can’t decide which worries me more...

Honestly, I lean more toward worrying about the paint and body than theft at shows. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve seen way more careless folks brushing up against fenders or leaning on hoods than I’ve heard of cars actually getting stolen at these events. Years ago, I watched a guy set his drink on a Chevelle’s trunk lid—owner nearly lost it. Theft’s a risk, sure, but the little stuff adds up and drives me nuts.

I get where you’re coming from, but I honestly worry more about theft than a scratch or two. Maybe it’s just because I’ve got kids and a daily driver, so a little ding isn’t the end of the world for me. But losing the whole car? That’s a nightmare. I’ve heard stories about folks getting their rides swiped right out of the lot, especially if it’s something rare or classic. Paint can be fixed, but if your car disappears, that’s a whole different headache. I’d rather deal with a few fingerprints than file a police report...
