Most insurers will let you adjust mid-policy, but sometimes there’s paperwork or a rate hike that kicks in right away.

- Been there, done that—called to bump up my mileage and suddenly I’m on hold forever, then boom, new premium.
- Some companies are chill, others act like you’re asking for their firstborn.
- I’d double-check if they prorate the extra cost or just slap you with a full-year hike.
- One time I tried to add 500 miles and they wanted a notarized letter... for real.
- If you’re even thinking you’ll go over, maybe pad your estimate a bit. Saves headaches later.

Honestly, the hoops some companies make you jump through are wild. I’ve seen folks get tripped up by the “annual mileage” thing—one guy had to send photos of his odometer every quarter. Have you noticed if they ever actually check, or is it just a scare tactic? Some policies seem stricter on paper than in practice.

I’ve actually had to do the odometer photo thing too, and yeah, it felt a bit over the top at first. But honestly, once you get into the habit, it’s not that bad. Most companies seem to just want some proof on file—they rarely dig deeper unless there’s a claim or something looks off. It’s a hassle, but if you’re organized about it, it’s manageable. The peace of mind with classic car insurance is worth a little paperwork, in my opinion.

I get what you mean about the peace of mind, but honestly, the odometer photo thing just stresses me out. Like, what if I forget to snap a pic on the exact day? Or my phone dies and I can’t prove anything? I’m not exactly the world’s most organized person, so it always feels like a mini panic attack waiting to happen. Plus, with the mileage cap, I’m always paranoid I’ll go over by accident. Does anyone else just feel like they’re being watched a little too closely?

I totally get where you’re coming from. The whole process can feel a bit invasive, especially when you’re not the type to keep meticulous records. I’ve had that same worry about missing the odometer photo deadline—once I was out of town and had to ask my neighbor to snap it for me. Not ideal, but it worked.

The mileage cap does make me second-guess every extra drive, too. I guess for me, it’s a trade-off: the lower premium is nice, but I have to be extra careful not to go over. It’s almost like having a speed limiter on your enjoyment... but then again, I’d rather deal with a little paperwork than risk being underinsured if something happened.

If it helps, I started setting a calendar reminder for the photo thing. Doesn’t solve everything, but at least it takes one layer of stress off. And honestly, as long as you’re making a good-faith effort, most companies seem pretty reasonable if you’re a day or two off.
