I get the temptation to fudge the numbers, but honestly, if a claim ever comes up and the mileage doesn’t add up, it can get messy fast. Have you looked into policies with flexible caps? Some companies will let you buy extra miles mid-year, though it’s not always cheap. I usually just plan my “big” drives and try to keep the rest local... not ideal, but better than risking coverage. Ever had an insurer actually check your odometer at renewal?

Never had an insurer check my odometer at renewal, but I’ve definitely seen it happen during claims. That’s when things get awkward—like, “Hey, why does your ‘occasional Sunday drive’ look like a cross-country road trip?” If you’re tempted to fudge, just remember: adjusters have a sixth sense for fishy mileage. Out of curiosity, has anyone actually been asked for service records or GPS data to back up their numbers? I’ve heard stories but never seen it firsthand...

Had a buddy who got grilled after a fender bender—his insurer wanted oil change receipts to check the mileage. He’d been honest, but it still felt invasive. I’ve never had them ask for GPS data, but I wouldn’t put it past them these days. The mileage cap sounds great on paper, but if you actually like driving your classic, it’s easy to go over without realizing. Always makes me a bit nervous about those “agreed value” policies...

Man, I hear you on the mileage cap stress. I once tried to keep track with a sticky note on my dash—lasted about a week before it got covered in coffee stains and fast food receipts. Next thing I know, I’m sweating bullets at renewal time, hoping they don’t ask for proof. The agreed value thing is nice, but yeah, feels like you need to keep a spreadsheet just to stay out of trouble. And don’t get me started on GPS... if they ever check my routes, they’ll see way too many late-night taco runs.

Honestly, I don’t get the stress over the mileage cap. If you’re driving your classic enough to worry about going over, maybe it’s not the right policy for you? I get the agreed value is a big plus, but if you’re using it for late-night taco runs all the time, regular insurance might make more sense. The GPS thing is overblown too—most companies aren’t actually tracking you unless there’s a claim. Just my two cents.
