I hear you on the odometer anxiety. I had a similar experience with my ‘72 Charger—thought I’d be fine with the cap, but those “just one more lap around the lake” drives add up fast. My insurer did ask for an odometer photo at renewal, but they didn’t grill me over a few hundred extra miles. I think if you’re way over, they might get picky, especially if you ever have to file a claim. Personally, I’d rather pay a bit more for peace of mind than stress every time I want to take the long way home.

Mileage caps always feel like a trap, don’t they? I get the logic—keeps premiums down—but honestly, who’s tracking every mile on a car you actually want to drive? I’ve pushed past my cap a few times in my S-Class and never got hassled, but I do wonder what happens if you ever need to make a big claim. Is saving a couple hundred bucks really worth sweating every detour? I’d rather pay up front and not have to think about it.

I get where you’re coming from—tracking every mile can feel tedious, especially if you actually enjoy driving your car. I’ve always wondered how strict insurers really are about enforcing those caps when it comes to claims. Some folks say they check service records or GPS data, but I’ve never had it happen personally. Has anyone here actually had a claim denied for going over the limit, or is it more of a theoretical risk?

Yeah, tracking every mile can get old fast, especially if you’re in it for the drive. I haven’t personally had a claim denied for going over, but I do know a guy from my club who had his insurer ask for service records after a fender bender. They compared oil changes and tire rotations to estimate mileage. He was just under the cap, so it worked out, but it was definitely a close call. I think most insurers won’t go digging unless there’s a reason, but if you’re way over, it could bite you. It’s a bit of a gamble, honestly.

Totally get what you mean—feels like playing mileage roulette sometimes. I’ve pushed the cap a bit on a couple of trips and just crossed my fingers. Honestly, if you’re not doubling your limit, you’re probably fine. But yeah, it’s nerve-wracking when you love to drive.
