Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?

I get where you’re coming from, but I’m not sure it’s always as shady as it feels. I mean, I remember trying to use a “new customer” discount and my rewards points at a car wash—same deal, no dice. At first I was annoyed, but then I realized most places (even outside auto stuff) have that “one promo per transaction” policy. It’s kind of like insurance: you can’t stack every possible discount, even if it seems like you should be able to. Still, the way they advertise it could be clearer... I’ll give you that.

Yeah, that’s what gets me too. I always wonder if they’re hoping folks won’t notice the fine print. Have you ever tried asking at the counter if they’ll make an exception? Sometimes it’s just a system thing, but I agree—it feels like a letdown when you think you’re stacking up savings and then… nope. Makes me double-check every offer now.

Same here. I’ve started reading the terms twice before I even get to the checkout, just to avoid that awkward moment. I did ask once if they could override it, but the cashier just pointed to the policy taped to the register—no luck. Has anyone actually managed to get both discounts applied, or is it always a hard no? Sometimes I wonder if it’s just a way to limit how much we save, rather than a technical issue.

Honestly, I’ve never seen both stack, no matter how nicely I ask. Even at the higher-end dealerships, they’ll just shrug and say “policy.” Makes me wonder if it’s really a system limitation or just a way to keep us from double-dipping. I get wanting to protect margins, but sometimes it feels a bit stingy, especially when you’re dropping serious cash. Anyone ever had luck with a manager override, or is that just wishful thinking?

Back in the day, I tried to stack a loyalty discount with a promo at a parts counter—manager just shook his head and pointed to the fine print. I’ve heard of folks getting lucky if they’re regulars, but honestly, I wouldn’t count on it. Feels like they’ve got those systems locked down tight now.
