Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?

Honestly, I get why it feels stingy, but I kinda see their side too. If everyone stacked points and coupons, they’d probably lose money fast and then maybe the rewards program would get watered down or disappear. Still, it’s annoying when you’ve saved up those points and can’t use them how you want. I’ve had better luck just waiting for a big sale and using my points then—sometimes that works out better than a coupon anyway.

- Totally get the frustration. It feels like you’re being penalized for actually being loyal and saving up those points.

Same here. I’ve noticed during the holiday sales, stacking isn’t even necessary because the discounts are so good. Kind of like waiting for green lights on every street—rare, but when it happens, it’s smooth sailing.
- One thing I do: check if the points expire soon. If they do, I’ll use them even without a coupon just to avoid losing them. Feels safer than risking it.
- I get why stores have to draw the line somewhere, but it does feel weird when you see all those “rewards” just sitting there, not working with other deals. Like having a full tank of gas but only being allowed to drive half as far.
- Not sure if it’s intentional or just how their system is set up... Either way, guess we gotta play by their rules (for now). At least there’s usually another sale around the corner.

That’s exactly how it feels. Here’s what I do: 1) Wait for a big sale, 2) Check if my points are close to expiring, 3) If they are, use them—coupon or not. Otherwise, I just hold out. Sometimes the best deals are when you don’t overthink it. Honestly, I wish they’d just let us stack, but I guess they want to keep some profit in the tank.

That’s the part that gets me too. I remember once I waited weeks for a sale, thinking I’d finally get to use my points and a coupon together—nope, had to pick one. Felt like planning a road trip and then hitting a detour right at the start. Your approach makes sense though. I’ve lost points before by holding out too long, so now I just use them if they’re close to expiring. It’s not perfect, but at least it beats losing out entirely.

Honestly, I’m right there with you. It’s like they dangle the “double dip” in front of us just to yank it away at checkout. I’ve tried every combo—points, coupons, sale days—always ends up being a pick-your-poison situation. Does anyone actually know someone who’s managed to stack both? I’m starting to think it’s an urban legend, like the friend-of-a-friend who got a free oil change for life.

I do the same thing now and just use the points before they vanish. Learned that one the hard way after losing a chunk of them to some random expiration date I didn’t even see coming. Still, it bugs me—if I’ve earned the points and I’ve got a coupon, why not let me use both? Maybe I’m missing some big-picture business logic, but from the customer side, it just feels stingy.

At this point, I treat points like bananas: use them before they go bad, or you’re left with a sad, mushy mess.
