Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I think people underestimate how much the policy docs actually spell out. You mentioned,

“even after years of owning higher-end cars, I still find myself surprised by what’s not included.”
In my experience, most of the “surprises” are buried in those pages nobody wants to read. Agents can miss stuff, sure, but I’d argue it’s on us too—if you want OEM parts or loss of use, you’ve gotta ask for it and double-check the paperwork. It’s a pain, but those details are usually there if you dig deep enough.

I totally get what you mean about the fine print. It’s wild how much is actually spelled out in those policy docs, but who really wants to read 40 pages of legalese after a fender bender? I’ve seen so many folks surprised by things like rental coverage or aftermarket vs. OEM parts—usually because they just assumed it was standard. Like you said:

“even after years of owning higher-end cars, I still find myself surprised by what’s not included.”

One thing I always wonder is, did your agent ever walk you through the “extras” or was it more of a “sign here and you’re good” kind of deal? Sometimes people don’t realize that stuff like gap coverage or loss of use isn’t automatic. I’ve had clients come in after an accident thinking everything would be covered, only to find out their deductible was way higher than expected or they didn’t have roadside assistance.

It’s definitely a pain to dig through all the details, but it can save a lot of headaches later. Ever had a claim where something small made a big difference? Those are the ones that stick with you...

Man, the fine print gets me every time too. I remember thinking I was totally covered after my first little scrape in the minivan—turns out, nope, rental coverage wasn’t included. My agent at the time basically handed me the paperwork and said, “You’re good,” but I guess “good” is relative when you end up cramming three kids and a dog into your brother-in-law’s sedan for a week. Lesson learned.

It’s wild how something tiny like a missing endorsement or a higher deductible can throw everything off when you’re already stressed from an accident. I feel like they almost design those policies to be confusing. But hey, you live and learn, right? At least now I know to ask about all the weird add-ons. If it makes you feel better, you’re definitely not the only one who’s been blindsided by what’s not included.

Honestly, I get what you’re saying about the fine print, but I kinda feel like it’s on us to double-check too. I used to just trust my agent, but now I read every little clause—boring, but saved me from a nasty surprise last year. Still, insurance lingo is a headache...
