Totally get where you're coming from. Insurance logic can seem pretty backwards sometimes. A couple years back, I had a minor fender-bender in Little Rock—no real damage, just a little paint scratch. Thought about calling insurance but decided to handle it myself after hearing so many similar stories like yours. Honestly, it felt kind of ridiculous paying out-of-pocket when I've been shelling out premiums for years, but it turned out to be the smarter move.

"Makes me wonder, at what point does it even make sense to file a claim anymore?"

I think the line is different for everyone, but generally I'd say if it's something you can comfortably handle yourself without breaking the bank, it's probably better to skip the claim. Still, don't beat yourself up too much if you ever find yourself in that situation—insurance stuff is confusing by design, I swear. At least knowing these quirks ahead of time helps avoid surprises later down the road...

Reading this makes me feel a little better about my own confusion, honestly. I just bought my first car insurance policy last month, and the whole thing feels like a maze. My agent explained deductibles and claims, but it still feels like there's some secret rulebook I'm missing.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this... Guess I'll just have to learn as I go along. Thanks for sharing your experience—it helps knowing others have been there too.

Honestly, I used to think insurance was intentionally confusing too, but after a couple of fender-benders on my road trips (don't ask...), I realized it's more about knowing what questions to ask. Agents tend to gloss over stuff assuming we already get it. Next time, try asking them to break down scenarios—like "what happens if I hit a deer in Arkansas?" It sounds silly, but trust me, specifics help way more than general explanations.

Totally agree about asking specifics. Last year I had a cracked windshield from gravel kicked up by a truck—thought it was covered, but nope, turns out my policy didn't include glass damage. Who knew that was even a separate thing? Now I always ask stuff like, "If a rock hits my windshield on I-40, am I paying out of pocket?" Feels silly at first, but hey, better silly than broke...right?

Yeah, glass coverage is sneaky like that... learned the hard way myself. Also heads-up: roadside assistance isn't always standard either—found out after a flat tire near Conway. Worth double-checking your policy details.
