anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

- Been with AAA forever too, and honestly, they've always come through for me—knock on wood. But I get what you're saying about smaller providers.
- Thing is, smaller doesn't always mean better. Had a buddy switch to one of those specialty insurers for his classic Mustang, thinking he'd get that personal touch. Well, he got personal alright—personally stuck on hold for hours when he needed them most.
- Not saying AAA is perfect, but at least you know they're not gonna vanish overnight or dodge your calls. Sometimes bureaucracy has its perks...like stability and reliability.
- Totally get the appeal of testing the waters elsewhere, just make sure the smaller guys have solid reviews from actual claims experiences, not just good sales pitches.
- Classic cars are precious cargo, after all—wouldn't wanna risk my baby just to save a few bucks or get a slightly friendlier voice on the phone.

Haha, ain't that the truth. AAA might not be flashy or super personal, but at least they're predictable. Had a similar experience with a smaller insurer once—super friendly until I actually needed help, then suddenly it was crickets. Classic cars are stressful enough without playing phone tag during a breakdown. I'll stick with boring-but-reliable any day...my old Chevy deserves better than hold music torture.

I've been wondering about AAA lately too...are they really as reliable as they used to be? Last time I called them, it took way longer than usual for someone to show up. Maybe it's just my area, but it got me thinking—could smaller insurers actually be stepping up their game now? I get the appeal of "

boring-but-reliable
," especially with family trips and all, but has anyone recently had a good experience with a smaller company? Curious if things are shifting or if AAA is still the safest bet.

I've noticed a similar trend with AAA lately. My parents have always sworn by them, so naturally, when I started driving, I went with AAA as well. But recently, when my battery died in the campus parking lot, it took them nearly two hours to get someone out there—and this wasn't even during rush hour or anything. It made me wonder if they're stretching themselves too thin these days.

Out of curiosity, I did some digging into smaller regional insurers and roadside assistance providers. Surprisingly, some of them seem to offer quicker response times because they're more localized and don't have as many customers to juggle at once. I've read a few positive experiences online about smaller companies stepping up their game with personalized customer service and quicker turnarounds.

Still, it's hard to shake the comfort factor AAA offers—especially if you're traveling out of state or on longer road trips. Maybe it's worth looking into hybrid options—AAA for major trips and a local provider for day-to-day coverage? Just something I've been considering myself lately...

I get the appeal of smaller providers, but honestly, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable relying on them yet. A friend of mine switched to a local roadside service last year because it was cheaper and promised faster response times. But when she got stranded on a weekend trip just two states over, they didn't have anyone nearby and ended up contracting AAA anyway—took forever. So yeah, AAA might be slower sometimes, but at least you know they'll show up eventually...
