anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing with AAA lately. Used to be I’d call and someone would show up in under half an hour, no problem. Last time I needed a tow, it was almost two hours—and I was stuck on the side of a busy road. I get that prices go up, but if the service is getting slower, it’s tough to justify paying extra. Tried one of those app-based roadside services once and honestly, it wasn’t much different, just took a bit longer. Guess it’s all about what you’re willing to put up with.

Man, I had nearly the same thing happen last winter. Battery died in a grocery store parking lot, figured AAA would be quick like they used to be... ended up waiting over an hour in the cold. I tried one of those newer apps too, but it was just as slow and way more confusing. Maybe it’s just too many people using these services now? Still, for what we pay, you’d think they’d keep up.

Honestly, I’ve had better luck flagging down a stranger than getting a quick tow lately. Here’s my go-to: keep a portable jump starter in the trunk (they’re not that pricey now), and if you’re stuck, try calling local tow companies directly instead of waiting on AAA or the apps. Sometimes they’re faster, and you can still file for reimbursement. Not perfect, but it beats freezing in a parking lot.

Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve had mixed results with AAA lately—sometimes it’s hours before anyone shows up. Ever tried their “concierge” service? For my car, I worry about who they send. Is it just me, or do some tow drivers seem a little unsure handling higher-end vehicles? Those jump starters are a lifesaver though… saved me from an embarrassing situation at a golf course once.

I’ve been looking into AAA as a first-time buyer, and honestly, some of these stories give me pause. I always assumed their roadside assistance was the gold standard, but waiting hours for help isn’t exactly reassuring—especially if you’re stuck somewhere unfamiliar. The “concierge” service sounds interesting, though I’d probably be just as nervous about who’s handling my car. Not sure I’d trust a random tow truck driver with something expensive or delicate.

Has anyone here actually compared AAA’s roadside service to what other insurance companies offer? I’ve seen some policies that bundle in their own roadside assistance, but I’m not sure how reliable those are either. Is it really just a matter of luck who shows up, or do some companies have a better track record? I’d hate to pay extra for peace of mind and end up stranded anyway...
