Had to laugh at the “pickup” thing—my first year in Wyoming, I tried to get a quote for my little hatchback and the agent just blinked at me like I’d asked for insurance on a spaceship. Ended up switching companies after they quoted me almost double what I paid back in Colorado. Has anyone actually found an insurer here that doesn’t just default to “truck rates” for everything? Or is it just a Wyoming thing that you have to shop around every year?
Truck rates for a hatchback... yeah, that sounds about right for Wyoming. It’s wild how much the rates can jump just crossing state lines. Not every company lumps everything in with pickups, but you really do have to dig around. Some of the smaller, regional insurers actually “get” that not everyone’s hauling hay bales. It’s a pain, but I’ve seen folks save a chunk just by switching every couple years.

Yep, that’s been my experience too. Had to send photos of my ‘68 Charger just to prove it wasn’t “modified for racing.” Also agree on switching—sometimes the “deal” isn’t worth the hassle. Local agents at least tend to know what a classic is, which helps.

That’s been my saving grace too. National chains just don’t get it—had one ask if my ‘72 Bronco was “lifted for off-roading” like three times, even after I sent over a stack of photos. I do think local folks are more understanding, but sometimes their rates aren’t as competitive. Still, peace of mind counts for something, especially when you’re worried about coverage gaps.
