Is it worth paying extra for full car coverage in VA?

I hear you on that - sometimes it just feels safer to keep the full coverage, even if the math doesn’t really add up. I did the same with my old Outback for a while, mostly because I was worried about a random deer or hailstorm ruining my trip plans. But yeah, once the payout drops below what you’re paying in premiums, it’s hard to justify. Did you notice your rates drop a lot after switching? I’m always curious how much people actually save when they finally make the jump.

- Totally get where you’re coming from. I kept full coverage on my S-Class longer than I probably should’ve, just because I was paranoid about someone keying it or a tree branch falling on it in a storm.
- When I finally dropped to liability, my rate went down about $80/month, but honestly, it felt weird not having that extra protection at first.
- If your car’s value isn’t much higher than your deductible plus a year’s premiums, it’s usually not worth keeping full coverage.
- You’re definitely not alone in feeling safer with it, though... sometimes peace of mind is worth the extra cost for a while.

I get the paranoia, especially with nicer cars - my old Accord wasn’t exactly a magnet for vandals, but I still worried about random stuff like hail or a rogue shopping cart. Dropping full coverage felt weird at first, too. I guess it’s kind of like that first time you drive without your parents in the car… a little nerve-wracking, but you get used to it. For me, once the car’s value dipped below what I was paying in premiums, it just didn’t make sense anymore. Still, I totally get wanting that peace of mind, even if it costs a bit more.

Honestly, I wouldn’t drop full coverage that quick, even on an older car. Seen too many folks regret it after a freak accident or a deer jumps out. Saving on premiums is nice, but surprise repairs can wipe that out fast. Just my two cents...

- Been there, done that - dropped full coverage once thinking I was saving big. Next thing you know, a shopping cart takes out my fender in the grocery lot.
- Those “it’ll never happen to me” moments? Yeah, they happen.
- I get wanting to save cash, but honestly, my luck’s so bad I’d probably hit a pothole and lose a wheel the day after dropping coverage.
- If you’re even a little accident-prone (like me), that extra premium can be worth it for peace of mind... or at least fewer headaches.
