USAA vs State Farm: which claims process is less of a headache?

I’ve noticed the same thing—sometimes the app is lightning fast, other times it’s like, “Did my claim even go through?” I’m curious, for those who’ve tried both USAA and State Farm, did you find one more responsive when you called in? I’ve had people tell me State Farm’s phone reps walk them through every step, but then again, USAA’s digital uploads are super convenient... until they’re not. Anyone ever get stuck waiting for a callback that never came? That’s always my worry with tech-heavy processes.

That’s exactly my fear—I’m all for convenience, but I keep imagining my claim floating in the digital void. Has anyone actually had a claim get lost, or is it just me being paranoid? Also, does State Farm’s “walk you through every step” mean you’re on the phone forever, or is it actually helpful? I’m not sure which is worse: endless hold music or a mysterious app error.

State Farm’s “walk you through” thing isn’t as bad as it sounds, but it’s not always quick either. You’ll probably be on the phone a while, but at least you know your claim’s not just sitting in some digital black hole. I’ve had USAA’s app glitch out and had to re-upload everything—super annoying. If you hate waiting on hold, the app is faster... when it works. But if you want a real person making sure stuff gets done, State Farm’s old-school approach isn’t the worst. Just depends how much patience you’ve got for tech hiccups vs. phone trees.

Honestly, I’d rather deal with a long phone call than an app that keeps crashing. At least with State Farm, you know someone’s actually handling your claim, even if it takes forever. USAA’s tech is cool when it works, but if you’re not super patient with apps or uploading docs multiple times, it gets old fast. How much do you trust the app not to glitch when you actually need it? That’s my biggest hang-up.

Honestly, I feel you on the tech frustration. I’ve had USAA for years and their app is super convenient... until it isn’t. The last time I filed a claim, the app froze right as I was uploading photos of my bumper. Had to start over twice, which made me want to throw my phone across the room. At least with State Farm, you’re stuck on hold but you know you’ll eventually get a human who can walk you through it.

But then again, those long calls can be brutal too. I remember waiting almost 40 minutes just to talk to someone about a windshield claim. By the time I got through, I’d forgotten half the details they needed. At least with the app, when it works, you can do it in your pajamas at midnight and not worry about business hours.

I guess it comes down to what kind of hassle you prefer? Tech headaches or endless hold music. For me, I’m still leaning toward having a real person help out, even if it takes longer. There’s just something about knowing someone’s actually looking at your info and not just some glitchy software.

I do wish these companies would put more effort into making their apps reliable though. It’s 2024—shouldn’t uploading a few photos be the easy part? Maybe I’m just old school but sometimes low-tech feels less stressful, even if it’s slow.
