“If you’re organized, either one can work out, but if you’re like me and tend to lose paperwork... it gets messy quick.”

This hits home. I had a claim with State Farm after a valet scraped my S-Class—had to dig through my glovebox for service records and receipts. I swear, keeping a folder in the trunk saved me from losing my mind. Never dealt with USAA personally, but my brother-in-law (he’s ex-Navy) swears their app made uploading docs way easier than emailing back and forth. If you’re not naturally organized, maybe USAA’s tech makes it less of a headache? State Farm worked out for me, but it took some chasing and a lot of patience.

I totally get what you mean about the paperwork scramble. I had a fender bender a couple years back, and with State Farm, it felt like I was on a scavenger hunt for every little document. I’m not the most organized person either—my glovebox is basically a black hole for receipts. Ended up having to call my mechanic just to get copies of old service records.

My neighbor’s with USAA and he’s always talking up their app too. He showed me how he took pics of the damage and uploaded everything right there in the parking lot. Looked way less stressful than my experience, honestly. I guess if you’re more digital-minded (or just tired of digging through piles of paper), USAA’s tech could be a real lifesaver.

That said, once I got all my stuff together, State Farm did come through. Just wish it hadn’t felt like such a marathon. Maybe it really does come down to how much you want to deal with paperwork vs. apps...

I’ve been through both, actually. With State Farm, it felt like a checklist that never ended—lots of scanning and emailing. USAA’s app was smoother for me: snapped pics, uploaded, done. If you’re detail-oriented but hate paper, USAA’s digital process is a game changer. Still, I double-check everything before submitting... old habits die hard.

I totally get the double-checking habit—old-school training, maybe? I’ve seen folks breeze through USAA’s app, but I’ve also had clients who get tripped up by missing docs, even with the tech. Ever run into that, or does the app catch most stuff for you?

I hear you on the double-checking—old habits die hard, right? Even with USAA’s app, I’ve seen people miss stuff like a police report or a repair estimate. The app does flag some missing docs, but it’s not foolproof. Sometimes it’ll let you submit without everything, and then you get that dreaded follow-up email asking for more info. That can slow things down.

Honestly, I always tell folks to keep a checklist handy. Snap pics of everything before uploading, and don’t assume the app will catch every little thing. It’s gotten better over the years, but there’s still room for human error—on both sides. Tech is great until it isn’t... but I’d rather have it than not.

You’re not alone in being cautious. It’s saved me from headaches more than once.
