That's a really helpful example, thanks for sharing. Makes me wonder though, does anyone know if insurance companies typically prefer certain types of documentation over others? Like, are contractor quotes considered stronger evidence than just receipts and photos, or is it more about having a solid mix of everything? Curious if anyone's had experience with adjusters specifically mentioning what helped their case most...
When I had some water damage last year, the adjuster seemed way more interested in the contractor's quote than my pile of receipts and photos. I mean, I had everything documented, but he specifically asked if I had a detailed estimate from a licensed contractor. Felt like that carried more weight because it showed exactly what needed fixing and why. Receipts were helpful too, but mostly as backup proof. Guess it depends on the adjuster though...
Had the opposite experience actually. When my camper roof got wrecked by hail, the adjuster barely glanced at the contractor's estimate and spent forever flipping through my messy stack of receipts and blurry photos. Maybe he was just into puzzles or something... but seriously, I think it really does depend on who you get. Luck of the draw, I guess.
Had something similar happen with my car after a fender bender. Adjuster barely glanced at the mechanic's estimate, just kept flipping through my stack of receipts and photos like he was looking for buried treasure or something. Ended up getting way less than expected. Learned the hard wayβnow I keep everything organized digitally, clear pics, itemized receipts, the works. Seems like adjusters appreciate neatness (or at least it speeds things up). But yeah, definitely luck of the draw who you get.

Haha, yep, had a similar experience last year when I dinged my bumper (again). Adjuster spent more time checking my tire tread than the actual damageβlike, what does that even have to do with my claim? 🤷♂️ Makes me wonder if they're trained to find random reasons to lowball us. Anyone else feel like adjusters have their own secret checklist they're not telling us about...?
