I’ve actually had some luck getting a bit more for recent upgrades, but it really depends on the adjuster and how well you can document everything. I always keep receipts, just in case. Have you ever had them push back on aftermarket parts, or do they just ignore those too?

- Had adjusters flat-out refuse to count aftermarket stuff, even with receipts.
- They claim it “doesn’t add value” or only offer salvage prices.
- OEM parts seem to get more respect, but it’s hit or miss.
- Ever had them nitpick about labor costs too? That one drives me nuts...

Yeah, I’ve run into that too—especially with aftermarket parts. It’s like, receipts don’t matter unless it’s OEM, and even then it’s a toss-up. The labor thing gets me the most though. I had an adjuster try to tell me the “book time” was half what my mechanic quoted, like I’m supposed to find someone working for peanuts. It does feel like they’re just looking for ways to shave off every dollar. You’re definitely not alone.

I get where you’re coming from, but it’s not always as cut and dry as it seems. I’ve had claims where the shop’s labor quote was way above what’s standard in the area, and I had to double-check everything. It’s not about trying to shortchange anyone, but there’s a lot of pressure to stick to guidelines. Sometimes those “book times” really are out of touch with reality, though—I’ve seen both sides. It’s a weird balance, honestly.

Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the “book times” not always matching up with what actually happens in the shop. I’ve had repairs where the estimate looked good on paper, but then the mechanic found something else or it just took longer than anyone expected. It’s frustrating, especially when you’re trying to stick to a budget and the numbers keep shifting.

I’ve also noticed that some shops will pad their labor hours a bit, probably because they know insurance is going to push back. It’s like this weird dance between everyone trying not to get shorted. I don’t think most adjusters are out to rip people off, but I do wish the guidelines were a little more flexible sometimes. At the end of the day, I just want my car fixed without going broke, you know? It’s a tough spot for everyone involved.
