How is ACV not just a fancy way to pay us less?

Honestly, I get what you mean about ACV feeling like a way to pay us less, but in my experience, it’s still better than footing the whole bill yourself. I’m all about saving a buck where I can, but insurance has saved my butt more than once—especially when my old Civic got rear-ended and the payout at least helped me get back on the road.

Here’s what I do now:
1) Keep every receipt for upgrades or repairs, even if it’s just a new stereo or tires.
2) Snap pics of any mods or changes—phones make that easy.
3) Send updates to my insurer so there’s a record (even if they grumble about it).

Yeah, I wish it was clearer how they come up with those numbers too... sometimes it feels like magic math. But at the end of the day, I’d rather argue over a lowball offer than get nothing. Learned that lesson after watching a buddy lose out on his aftermarket wheels because he never told anyone he had ‘em. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
