How is ACV not just a fancy way to pay us less?

It’s wild how inconsistent ACV can be. When my Camry got totaled, the adjuster barely glanced at the options—didn’t care about the tech package or even the low mileage. I tried showing them dealer listings, but they just shrugged and said “private party sales are more accurate.” Felt like a losing battle. I’ve never seen them take dealer prices seriously, honestly. Maybe if you push hard enough, but it’s always an uphill climb.

Honestly, I’ve always wondered why there’s such a gap between what the adjusters use and what’s out there on the market. I had a client with a loaded Accord, super low miles, but the comps they pulled were all base models with way more wear. I get that private party sales can reflect “real world” value, but does it really capture what someone would pay for your exact car with those extras? Sometimes I think the formulas just miss the mark, especially when options or condition aren’t factored in. Ever notice how some adjusters will dig in their heels if you push back, while others are willing to look at more data? It’s never consistent...

I’ve noticed that too, especially after my cousin’s car got totaled last year. The adjuster’s value was way off compared to what similar cars were actually selling for around here. He had to send in listings and receipts for upgrades just to get them to budge a little. It’s like unless you really push, they just use whatever’s easiest for them. Makes me nervous about ever having to deal with it myself...

Yeah, that’s what worries me too. I just got my first policy and reading about ACV makes it sound like they’re always gonna lowball you unless you fight for every dollar. I get that cars lose value, but it feels like they ignore the real market prices. Guess you have to be ready to dig up proof if something happens… kind of a pain, honestly.
