Totally get that feeling—those apps can be pretty intrusive. A few things I've found helpful for cutting insurance costs without the stress:

- Shop around every renewal period; loyalty rarely pays off.
- Check if your insurer offers discounts for defensive driving courses (did one online, wasn't too bad).
- Adjust your deductible slightly higher if you're comfortable with it—can lower premiums noticeably.
- Bundle policies if you have renters or other coverage.

Small tweaks like these helped me save without feeling like someone's breathing down my neck...

Good point about the deductible, though as a first-timer, I'm still figuring out what's a comfortable level for me. One thing I'm curious about: does anyone know if insurers typically offer discounts for low mileage? I don't drive much since I mostly rely on public transit, so wondering if that's another way to shave off some costs...

Low mileage discounts can help, but honestly, they're usually pretty modest. A better bet might be looking into usage-based insurance (UBI)—basically, insurers track your driving habits through an app or device and adjust your rates accordingly. Worked well for me since I mostly just do school runs and grocery trips. Just make sure you're comfortable with the privacy trade-off...

Fair point about privacy. I went with a UBI plan last year because I barely drove—mostly just weekend errands and occasional visits to family. It did save me a decent chunk, but honestly, I felt a bit weird knowing every trip was tracked. Eventually got used to it, though...and the savings definitely helped ease the sting of insurance bills when money was tight.

Totally get the privacy concern...I felt the same way at first. But honestly, knowing my driving was being tracked actually made me more mindful behind the wheel. Did you notice any changes in your driving habits after switching to UBI?
