Honestly, I’ve seen the same thing happen and it drives me a little nuts. One year, a coworker’s kid had to jump through hoops—signed letter, school seal, the works. Next renewal? Just an email attachment with a screenshot and that was fine. I’ve always wondered if it’s just whoever’s reviewing the docs that day or if there’s some internal checklist we’re not privy to.

Keeping a folder with all your bases covered sounds a little over the top, but honestly, you’re not wrong. It’s way less stressful when you’ve got everything ready to go and don’t have to scramble last minute. The requirements can be weirdly inconsistent, and sometimes even the reps on the phone don’t seem totally sure. I wish there was a universal standard, but I guess until then, your “just in case” folder is probably the safest bet. Better a little extra prep than losing out on that discount because of some technicality, right?

That’s been my experience too. I’ve seen policies where one rep is fine with a basic transcript, but another wants official documents mailed in. Honestly, it sometimes feels like luck of the draw depending who handles your case. I get why you’d want to keep every possible doc on hand—less hassle if they change their minds halfway through. Still, you’d think after all this time there’d be a clearer process.

Yeah, I’ve run into the same thing—one time I got told a screenshot of my grades was fine, and the next year they wanted an official sealed envelope from the registrar. It’s wild how much it changes depending on who you get. What’s worked for me is just keeping a folder with every possible doc: transcripts, enrollment letters, even screenshots of my student portal. That way, if they suddenly ask for something new, I’m not scrambling.

Honestly, it’s frustrating but I try to remind myself it’s not personal—they’re just following whatever checklist they’ve got that day. I get the feeling sometimes the reps are as confused as we are. It’s annoying, but having all your paperwork ready does save a lot of headaches. You’re definitely not alone in this. If you stick with it and keep your docs handy, you’ll get there eventually. Just gotta jump through those hoops, even when they keep moving them around...

Yeah, I totally get what you’re saying about the paperwork roulette. I’ve had to submit my kid’s grades every year for the “good student” discount, and it’s never the same twice. Here’s what’s helped us:

- Keep both digital and paper copies of everything, because sometimes they want a scan, sometimes they want a photo, and sometimes they want it mailed in. No clue why.
- I actually called ahead last year to ask exactly what they needed—got one answer from the rep, then a different one from the email they sent. Ended up just sending both versions to cover my bases.
- One year, they said the GPA wasn’t on the transcript (it was, just not in bold), so I had to highlight it and resend. Felt like overkill, but whatever.

It’s a pain, but I do see the savings on our premium, so I jump through their hoops. Still, I wish they’d just make the requirements clear and stick to them. Would save everyone a lot of time.

Honestly, I’ve always wondered if they make it confusing on purpose just to weed people out. I had a similar runaround last year—sent in my daughter’s report card, then got told it “wasn’t official” enough. Ended up driving to the school for a stamped copy, which felt ridiculous. I get wanting proof, but half the time it feels like busywork. Still, the discount is decent, so I keep playing their game... just wish they’d pick a lane and stick with it.
