Had a similar experience a couple years back with my classic Mustang. Wasn't even an accident—just a windshield chip repair—but rates still went up slightly. Did pretty much the same thing, shopped around and found a specialty insurer that actually understood classic car values. Ended up with better coverage for less money. Curious if anyone else here has switched to specialty or collector car insurance after something like this happened? Seems worth looking into...

Did exactly that a few years ago with my '68 Camaro. Regular insurers just didn't get it—kept treating minor stuff like major claims. Switched to a specialty insurer and haven't looked back since. A few quick points from my experience:
- Rates dropped noticeably.
- Coverage was tailored specifically for classics (agreed value, etc.).
- Customer service actually knew what they were talking about.

Definitely worth checking out if you're tired of standard insurers not understanding classic cars...

Went through something similar with my '72 Mustang. Regular insurance kept dinging me hard for minor stuff like windshield chips and small dings—got frustrating fast. Switched to specialty coverage after a friend recommended it, and honestly, it was a game changer. Premiums dropped, and coverage was way more practical (agreed value, mileage flexibility, etc.). Definitely felt safer knowing the insurer understood the actual value and use of a classic car.

I'm still pretty new to driving and haven't had to file any claims yet, but hearing your experience makes me wonder if regular insurance is even worth it for older cars. My dad has an '85 Camaro he's super careful with...should I be suggesting specialty coverage for him too? Did you find the switch complicated at all, or was it pretty straightforward? Just trying to avoid headaches down the road, haha.

Honestly, switching to specialty coverage was way easier than I expected—just a quick call and some paperwork. Given your dad's Camaro is an '85, specialty insurance might actually save him money and hassle down the line...definitely worth looking into.
