My dad's 74 and still drives pretty well, but lately I've been thinking about what would happen if he got into a minor accident. You know, nothing serious, just like a fender bender or something. He's insured, obviously, but I'm wondering if there's anything special we should be aware of here in SC when it comes to older drivers and insurance claims. Like, do insurance companies around here tend to jack up rates for seniors after even small incidents? Or maybe there are certain discounts or programs we haven't heard about yet?
I mean, he's been driving forever without any real issues (knock on wood), but you never know. Just trying to be prepared ahead of time instead of scrambling after the fact. Anyone else dealt with this kinda situation before? Curious how it went down for you guys.
"Just trying to be prepared ahead of time instead of scrambling after the fact."
Smart thinking, honestly. My mom had a minor scrape at 76, and surprisingly, her rates didn't jump much. Might depend on the insurer, though... wouldn't hurt to call and casually ask about senior discounts or accident forgiveness.
