I hear you, but I’m still wary. Had a buddy use his insurance’s roadside for a dead battery and months later his renewal shot up—coincidence, maybe, but it spooked me. I stick with AAA just to keep things separate. Peace of mind, you know?

Honestly, I’m in the same boat. I’ve always been nervous about using insurance roadside—it feels like one of those “little things” that could end up biting you later, even if it’s not supposed to. With AAA, at least I know it won’t show up on my insurance record. It’s a few extra bucks a year, but considering how unpredictable these companies can be with renewals and rates, I’d rather play it safe. Just feels like less risk in the long run, you know?

- I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’ve used my insurance’s roadside a couple of times and it never popped up on my record or changed my rates.
- AAA’s great, but sometimes I wonder if we’re just paying extra for peace of mind.
- Is it even guaranteed that insurance companies ding you for using their roadside? Or is that just one of those urban myths?
- For us, with kids and all, whoever gets there faster wins...

I’ve seen a lot of folks assume using insurance roadside is totally invisible, but honestly, it can depend on the company and even the state. Some insurers treat it like a claim, some don’t. I’ve heard stories where it never touched their record, but I’ve also seen a couple where it did pop up as a “service use” when they switched carriers and the new company asked about “any claims, including roadside.” Not saying it’s common, but it’s not impossible.

AAA’s not always cheaper, but you’re not mixing up your emergency calls with your insurance history, which feels cleaner to me. Plus, if you’ve got kids and you’re stranded, I get the “whoever’s faster” thing. But I’ve had AAA show up way quicker than my insurance’s contractor more than once. The one time my battery died in the Target parking lot, AAA had me back on the road in under 30 minutes. My neighbor waited almost two hours for her insurance roadside to send a tow truck. Just my two cents… sometimes paying for that peace of mind is actually worth it.

I’ve always leaned toward AAA, mostly because I’m a worrier and I like to keep my insurance record as clean as possible. I remember reading somewhere that even “non-claims” can show up as activity when you switch carriers, and that just stuck with me. Maybe it’s overkill, but I’d rather pay a little extra than risk a higher premium down the line for something as minor as a dead battery.

Had a situation last summer—middle of nowhere, car overheated, and I was honestly expecting a long wait. AAA got there in about 45 minutes, which felt like a win considering I was off the main highway. My friend who was with me kept saying her insurance would’ve covered it for free, but I just didn’t want to take the chance. She ended up using her insurance roadside a few months later, and while it worked out, she did mention her renewal paperwork listed it as a “service event.” Didn’t affect her rate, but it made her nervous.

I get why people use insurance roadside, especially if it’s included and you’re not driving much. But for those of us who do longer trips or just want that separation between emergencies and insurance, AAA feels safer. Plus, their maps and travel guides are still kind of fun to flip through, even if it’s all on your phone now.

Not saying AAA is perfect—they’ve left me waiting before, too—but I’d rather have a dedicated service that doesn’t touch my insurance file. Peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks, at least for me.
