Honestly, I hear stories like yours a lot. Insurance roadside is hit or miss—sometimes it’s fine, sometimes you’re left hanging. I get why people go for AAA, especially if you’ve had a bad experience waiting around at night. Still, I’m not totally convinced it’s always worth the extra cash for everyone. Some insurance companies actually contract with the same tow services AAA does, so it can be a toss-up depending on where you live.

I’m curious—did you ever compare the response times between AAA and your insurance after you switched? Or did you just feel better knowing AAA had a reputation for showing up? I’ve seen folks pay for both and end up using whichever answers first, which seems a bit much, but I guess if you’re stranded at midnight, it’s whatever gets you home fastest.

I’ve only needed a tow once, and my insurance sent someone out in about 40 minutes, but that was during the day in a busy area. I wonder if it’s just way worse after dark or in certain neighborhoods. Does AAA really pick up the phone faster late at night, or is it more about their network? I’m skeptical, but maybe I’ve just been lucky so far.

I totally get the hesitation about paying extra for AAA. I ended up getting it after my insurance left me waiting almost two hours in the rain once—never again if I can help it. But honestly, I’ve heard of people having to wait with AAA too, especially during bad weather or busy weekends. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw? Has anyone actually had both and noticed a real difference at night or in more rural spots? Sometimes I wonder if it’s just about peace of mind more than anything else.

Honestly, I’ve seen both sides—sometimes AAA’s faster, sometimes insurance wins the race. It really does feel like a coin toss, especially if you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere at 2am. At least with AAA, you get those hotel discounts... silver linings, right?

Yeah, those hotel discounts are the unsung heroes of AAA, right? I’ve had clients swear by insurance roadside, but then again, I’ve also heard stories about waiting so long you start naming the raccoons. Honestly, it’s a bit of a gamble either way. At least with AAA, you get that little plastic card that makes you feel like you’re in some secret club... even if it’s just for towing and cheap motels.

That card really does have a certain mystique, doesn’t it? I’ve pulled it out at sketchy gas stations and felt like I was flashing a badge. I hear you on the raccoon-naming wait times, though—my record is two and a half hours in rural Nevada, and I’m pretty sure one of the raccoons was eyeing my snacks.

Honestly, I’ve tried both AAA and insurance roadside. The insurance company’s help line always sounds surprised when I call, like they forgot roadside was even an option. With AAA, at least you know what you’re getting: maybe a wait, maybe a discount on a room that smells like old socks, but there’s a weird comfort in the routine. Plus, those random travel guides they send out? I’ve planned more detours from those than I’d care to admit.

It’s definitely a gamble either way, but I’ll take the secret club perks and the occasional motel discount over being put on hold by my insurance any day.
