I get wanting that peace of mind, but honestly, I’m not convinced the local guys are always better. Had a “specialist” once who left greasy fingerprints all over my door. At least with AAA, there’s some accountability if things go sideways...

Honestly, greasy fingerprints are the least of my worries—at least they showed up. I’ve had insurance roadside “help” leave me hanging for hours, then cancel last minute. At least AAA’s got a reputation to protect if they mess up.

- 100% agree, waiting around for insurance roadside is a gamble. I’ve had them tell me “someone’s on the way” and then just... nothing. No updates, no ETA, just radio silence.
- AAA usually gets there faster in my experience. They seem to have more dedicated contractors or something? Insurance companies just outsource to whoever’s available, so it’s hit or miss.
- One thing I’ve noticed: AAA drivers actually know what they’re doing. I had an insurance guy once who didn’t even have the right jack for my car—he tried to use a block of wood. Not kidding.
- The only downside with AAA is the yearly fee, but honestly, after a couple of breakdowns, it pays for itself.
- If you’re high-risk or drive older cars (guilty), AAA’s consistency is worth it. Insurance roadside feels like rolling dice every time.

Greasy fingerprints are annoying, but at least you’re not stranded on the side of the highway at 2am.

That’s been my experience too, but I always wonder if it depends on where you live. In my area, AAA is solid, but a friend in a rural spot said her insurance roadside actually beat AAA once. Anyone else notice regional differences?

Definitely think location matters. Where I am, AAA’s been super reliable, but my cousin in a small town swears her insurance roadside is faster. I’d rather pay a bit more for peace of mind, though—especially with kids in the car.
