my minivan got called “luxury” once.
Luxury minivan, huh? That’s a new one. I’ve had my old Subaru called “premium” before, which made me laugh since it was mostly held together by duct tape at that point.
But honestly, I’ve had the opposite experience with AAA and insurance roadside. Once, AAA left me hanging for almost three hours in the middle of nowhere—no updates, just radio silence. Meanwhile, my insurance company (which I’d always heard was slow) actually got someone out to me in under an hour when my battery died last winter. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw or depends on where you break down?
I do wonder who’s behind those car classifications. Feels like they’re just spinning a wheel sometimes. Either way, I keep both numbers saved... can’t say I fully trust either one after some of these adventures.

Right? My “family hauler” got labeled as “executive” once—made me laugh. I’ve had mixed luck with both AAA and insurance too. Has anyone noticed if certain areas get faster service, or is it just random?
Yeah, those labels are all over the place. My old minivan once got called a “luxury SUV”—not sure what algorithm came up with that. As for service speed, I’ve noticed it’s way faster in suburban areas than out in the sticks. City traffic can slow things down too.
I’ve seen some wild vehicle classifications too—once had a client’s beat-up hatchback listed as a “performance coupe.” Not sure who’s in charge of those labels, but they’ve got a vivid imagination. As for roadside help, I’ve noticed insurance companies sometimes contract with the same providers as AAA, so the speed can be pretty similar. But yeah, if you’re out in the boonies, it’s a toss-up—sometimes you’re just at the mercy of whoever’s closest. City traffic definitely doesn’t help either... patience is key.
Honestly, I’ve seen both sides—sometimes the insurance roadside is just as fast as AAA, but it really depends on the network in your area. One thing to watch for: some insurance plans limit the number of tows or miles covered, while AAA might be more generous. Ever had a claim where the roadside coverage didn’t match what you expected?
