Roadside help added to my insurance—totally worth it?

I’ve only used my insurance’s roadside once, but honestly, it took about 45 minutes for a jump. My friend with AAA swears they’re faster, but sometimes she’s waited just as long. I kinda wonder if it’s just luck and where you are? Haven’t tried the luxury brand ones, but I’d bet they’re not magically quicker—maybe just fancier tow trucks or something. Not sure it’s worth paying extra unless you’re stranded all the time.

That’s been my experience too. I’ve had insurance roadside show up in 20 minutes, but once waited over an hour for AAA. Location and time of day seem to matter more than the brand. I do keep both, though—peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks when you’re driving something vintage that’s a bit temperamental.

I hear you on the location thing. Last summer, we broke down on a back road in the middle of nowhere—kids in the back, melting in the heat, and my phone barely hanging onto a signal. Called the insurance roadside and, honestly, I was expecting to camp out for hours. But they surprised me and got there in about 35 minutes. On the flip side, I’ve had AAA take almost two hours once when I was stuck in a busy part of town during rush hour. Go figure.

I guess it’s a bit of a gamble either way. For me, having both is like carrying an extra diaper in the car—most days you don’t need it, but when you do, you’re really glad it’s there. I don’t totally buy that one service is always better than the other. Seems like it’s more about who’s nearby and how busy they are at the time.

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. I’ve had my share of breakdowns—sometimes the “premium” roadside through my car’s manufacturer took longer than basic insurance help. It’s wild how unpredictable it is. I keep both too, just in case. Honestly, for what it costs, the peace of mind is worth it... even if you only need it once every few years.

I’m with you on the unpredictability. One time, my “fancy” roadside plan left me waiting in a sketchy gas station parking lot for almost three hours, while my friend with the basic insurance add-on got a tow in like 40 minutes. Go figure. I guess it really does come down to who’s around and how slammed they are.

I keep both too, just because my luck is usually the kind that finds the one pothole in a 100-mile stretch. But now I’m wondering—has anyone actually had a roadside service deny them for something weird? Like, I’ve heard stories about certain plans not covering flat tires if you’re on a dirt road or something. Just curious if that’s actually happened to anyone or if it’s just urban legend stuff.
