Roadside help added to my insurance - totally worth it?
I drive a lot for work, and it’s bailed me out more than once - dead battery, flat tire, even a fuel delivery once. Not perfect, but for the price, I’ll keep it.
Couldn’t agree more. For what it costs, it’s a no-brainer if you’re on the road a lot. I’ve had my share of “oops, left the lights on” moments and that roadside add-on saved me from a real headache. Sure, sometimes the wait is longer than I’d like, but honestly, paying out of pocket for a tow or jump is way worse. Peace of mind is worth a few bucks a month, in my book.
I just added roadside to my policy for the first time, mostly because I’m paranoid about getting stranded. Haven’t had to use it yet, but honestly, the idea of being stuck somewhere with a dead battery freaks me out. I did wonder if it was just a money grab, but hearing these stories makes me feel better about paying for it. Even if I never use it, I’d rather have the backup.

I get where you’re coming from. I used to think roadside was just another way for insurance companies to squeeze a few extra bucks out of us. But then my alternator died in the middle of nowhere - cell service was spotty, and I had no idea who to call. That one tow paid for years of coverage. Still, sometimes I wonder if it’s overkill since I haven’t needed it since... but peace of mind is hard to put a price on.
Honestly, I’d rather have it and not need it than be stuck wishing I’d paid the extra. I do a lot of long drives and back roads, and you just never know when something’s going to go sideways. It’s not just about breakdowns, either - locked my keys in the car once at a trailhead, and roadside came through. Might feel like overkill, but that peace of mind is worth the few bucks a month for me.
I used to think roadside was just for people who lock their keys in the car (which, let’s be honest, I’ve done more times than I care to admit). But last winter, my battery died in a grocery store parking lot and I realized I had no jumper cables, no clue, and zero friends nearby. Roadside showed up before I could even Google “how to jump a car.” For a few bucks a month, it’s like having a backup adult in your pocket. Worth it for the peace of mind, even if you only use it once every few years.
