I found out after the fact that my card actually covered basic roadside stuff, but only if I booked the service through their app. Who knew?

That’s the thing—half the time, you don’t even know what you’re already paying for. I’ve seen people double up on coverage without realizing it. Personally, I’m always a little skeptical about these “peace of mind” add-ons, but I get the appeal when you’re stuck in a snowstorm. Curious—has anyone actually had a roadside plan deny a claim or take forever to show up? I always wonder if they’re as reliable as they claim.

I’ve actually had a roadside plan take almost three hours to send a tow truck, which kind of defeated the whole “peace of mind” thing. Honestly, sometimes I just pay out of pocket and get faster help. Makes me wonder if these plans are really worth it unless you’re traveling all the time.

Honestly, I’ve wondered the same. We had a flat tire in town and waited ages for the roadside guy. Ended up just calling a local shop and paying out of pocket—cheaper and way faster. The “peace of mind” thing only works if they actually show up when you need them. For us, it’s starting to feel like more hassle than help unless we’re on a road trip or something.

- I get where you’re coming from. I’ve had similar experiences—waited over an hour once for a jump, and by then a neighbor helped out anyway.
- For me, the value comes down to a few things:
- How reliable is your car? My old ‘72 Chevelle’s quirky, so I like having backup, but my daily driver rarely gives me trouble.
- Where do you usually drive? Around town, there’s always a shop or someone willing to lend a hand. Out on a backroad or highway, it’s a different story.
- What’s actually covered? Some plans have so many exclusions it’s almost pointless. Read the fine print... learned that the hard way after a tow wasn’t covered because I was “too close” to home.

- I don’t mind paying for peace of mind, but if the service is slow or unreliable, it kind of defeats the purpose.
- One thing I noticed—classic car insurance sometimes bundles in roadside, but it’s not always the fastest. Anyone else notice that?

Curious—has anyone had a plan actually save their bacon in a pinch, or is it mostly just a “nice to have” that rarely pays off? I keep debating dropping mine, but then I remember that one time my alternator died in the middle of nowhere...

Yeah, that’s my main gripe. I had one plan that wouldn’t tow me home because I was “within 5 miles”—felt pointless. Still, I keep it for long trips. Peace of mind is worth a few bucks, even if it’s slow sometimes.
