What happens if your rideshare app is between trips and you get into an accident?

Never trusted the “wiggle room” thing—insurance companies love loopholes. If you’re just sitting there with the app on, who actually decides if you’re “on the job” or not? Ever seen anyone actually win a claim in that gray area?

Yeah, I get what you mean about the gray area. I was nervous about that too when I first signed up. My cousin actually had a fender bender while waiting for a ride request—he said it took a while, but his claim did go through. It wasn’t quick, but it worked out in the end. Guess it’s not always as hopeless as it sounds, even if it’s a pain.

Honestly, I was super anxious about this exact scenario when I first started driving. The “between trips” thing just feels like this weird limbo where you’re not totally covered, you know? But hearing about your cousin’s experience is a bit of a relief. I’ve always been the type to read the fine print on insurance stuff (probably too much), and even then, it’s not always clear what counts as “on app” versus actually on a trip.

I had a minor incident once—nothing major, just someone sideswiped my mirror while I was parked waiting for a ping. Took forever to sort out because the rideshare company and my personal insurance both kind of pointed fingers at each other at first. In the end, it got sorted, but it was a headache. Not gonna lie, it made me rethink if it’s worth sitting and waiting in busy areas. Now I try to park somewhere safe and out of traffic whenever possible. It’s not always doable, but it makes me feel better about those in-between moments.

I guess the main thing is, yeah, it can be a hassle, but it’s not totally hopeless like you said. Just gotta be extra careful during that “waiting” time. Sometimes I wonder if the companies could make things clearer or offer better coverage for that gray area... but until then, I’m just sticking with being cautious and hoping for the best. At least stories like your cousin’s show it’s possible to get help if something does happen, even if it takes a while.

Man, I totally get the mirror thing—mine got knocked off in a grocery store lot once, and insurance acted like I was trying to file a claim for a spaceship. The “between trips” coverage is such a gray area it might as well be foggy London. Honestly, I just keep my minivan parked where only squirrels can reach it when I’m waiting... less drama that way.

I hear you on the insurance circus—sometimes I think they just make up rules as they go. But here’s what bugs me: if you’re technically “available” on the app but not on a trip, shouldn’t that count as work time? Or is that just wishful thinking? I’ve had my classic Mustang parked at the far end of lots for years to avoid dings, but with rideshare, you can’t always pick your spot. Ever had them actually pay out for something in that gray area, or is it always a fight?
