Yeah, the whole process is like a never-ending game of “guess what paperwork you forgot this time.” I swear, Rhode Island traffic court has its own special brand of chaos. I once had to fax something in—like, who even owns a fax machine anymore? It’s wild.

I get that some of it’s just outdated systems, but man, it really does feel like they’re dragging things out on purpose sometimes. Maybe it’s not intentional, but when you’re stuck in the loop, it’s hard not to get frustrated. At least you’re not alone in the struggle... pretty sure half the folks in line with me last time were just as confused.

Hang in there. Eventually, they run out of hoops for you to jump through—or at least you get better at jumping.

- Totally get the fax machine thing—had to hunt one down at a FedEx just for a single page.
- Curious if anyone’s ever tried just showing up with digital copies? Do they even accept that, or is it all paper-or-bust?
- Sometimes I wonder if they actually want us to mess up, just so they can tack on extra fees... or am I just being cynical?

I’ve actually tried bringing digital copies to a municipal office (not in RI, but similar vibe), and was told—pretty bluntly—that “we need a hard copy for the file.” They barely glanced at my phone. It seems like the systems just aren’t set up for anything but paper, which feels ridiculous in 2024.

As for the suspicion about fees, I wouldn’t say you’re being entirely cynical. The process is so convoluted that it almost guarantees someone will miss a detail or deadline. I doubt it’s an explicit strategy, but there’s definitely no incentive for them to make things easier.

The fax thing still gets me. I had to call three different places before I found a working machine last year. The hoops you jump through just to hand over proof you already have... it’s wild.

Yeah, I’ve run into the same thing—dragged my phone out at the window, and the clerk just shook her head. Ended up sprinting to a Staples to print everything out. The whole “fax or paper only” rule feels like it’s from another century. I get that they want a record, but you’d think scanning or emailing would be easier for everyone. Honestly, I’ve started carrying a folder of random docs in my glove box just in case. Not ideal, but it’s saved me a headache more than once.

I do the same thing—my glove box is basically a mobile filing cabinet at this point. Had a cop once who wouldn’t even look at my insurance on my phone, just kept repeating “paper copy only.” It’s wild how some places are stuck in the past. I get wanting a hard copy for records, but it feels like they’re making it harder than it needs to be. Still, that folder has bailed me out more times than I’d like to admit...
