Had a suction mount fail on me mid-road trip once—dashcam ended up dangling by the cord halfway through Arizona. Adhesive mounts felt too hardcore initially, but after that fiasco, switched right away. Convenience isn't worth the anxiety of equipment randomly dropping mid-drive...

Couldn't agree more—had a similar experience last winter. Mine didn't just dangle; it fell right onto my gear shift while navigating some icy roads. Talk about a heart-stopping distraction. Ever since then, I've been all-in on adhesive mounts. I get why some folks hesitate (the residue can be annoying to deal with later), but when you weigh that against the risk of sudden distractions at highway speeds, it's honestly a no-brainer.

One thing I've noticed though, even adhesive mounts aren't foolproof if you don't prep the surface properly. A friend of mine stuck his dashcam directly onto a dusty dashboard without cleaning it first, and sure enough, it peeled right off after a couple of hot days. So yeah... prep matters too. It's all about minimizing risk and staying safe out there—especially considering how unpredictable driving conditions can get these days.

Totally relate to this. Had my phone holder pop off mid-commute a few months back—right in the middle of rush hour traffic. It didn't just fall, it bounced right under the brake pedal... talk about panic mode. After that, I switched to adhesive mounts too, but you're spot-on about prep:

"even adhesive mounts aren't foolproof if you don't prep the surface properly."

Learned that lesson the hard way when mine peeled off after a hot weekend. Now I always wipe down the dash first—small hassle, but beats another heart attack moment on the freeway.

I get the logic behind adhesive mounts, especially after your scary experience:

"it bounced right under the brake pedal... talk about panic mode."

But honestly, I'm not fully convinced adhesives are the safest long-term solution either. I've had adhesive mounts fail unexpectedly, even after careful surface prep. Heat waves and direct sunlight can weaken the glue over time, and when they give out, it's usually without warning. Personally, I've switched to vent-mounted holders—they seem more stable and less prone to sudden failure. Sure, they might wobble a bit on rough roads, but at least there's no risk of them dropping into critical areas like pedals. Just something to consider if you're looking for peace of mind...

Yeah, adhesive mounts can be hit or miss. Had one fall off mid-drive last summer—luckily it landed on the passenger seat, but still gave me a mini heart attack. Vent mounts seem decent, though I've noticed mine rattles a bit on rougher roads. Honestly, there's probably no perfect solution... just gotta find whatever feels safest for your driving style and car setup. Glad you're okay after that brake pedal scare, though—that sounds intense.
