Maybe they need a checkbox for “not your average car” on those calls...

Honestly, I’ve seen that exact issue way too many times. People assume dispatch knows every possible vehicle mod or size out there, but they’re usually just running off whatever’s in their system. If you don’t spell it out, they’ll default to “standard car,” and then you get the wrong truck.

I get why it feels like overkill, but it saves headaches. Out of curiosity, when you called Progressive, did you have to go through their app or did you talk to someone directly? Sometimes the app lets you add notes about your vehicle, but I’ve heard those get ignored half the time. Wondering if people have better luck calling and making sure a human actually hears the details.

Totally agree—learned that the hard way with my old van. Here’s what’s worked for me:

- Always call, don’t just use the app. Talking to a real person seems to help.
- Mention any mods or if your car’s oversized, even if it feels repetitive.
- Ask them to repeat back what they’re sending. Caught a mistake once that way.

It’s a hassle, but beats waiting hours for the wrong tow. The app’s convenient, but I’ve had better luck just picking up the phone.

Yeah, totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve seen folks get stuck with a flatbed that can’t handle their lifted truck—nightmare. One thing I’d add: double-check your coverage details before you call. Sometimes there are limits on mileage or type of tow, and it’s better to know up front.

That’s a good call about the coverage details. I actually spent way too long reading the fine print—turns out my plan only covers 15 miles of towing, which isn’t much if you’re out in the sticks. Learned that one the hard way...

- Wait, is 15 miles the standard? I thought roadside plans would at least get you to the nearest town, but maybe I’m just being naive.
- I’m still shopping around for insurance and honestly, all these “fine print” details are making my head spin. Is it even possible to find a plan that covers more without costing a ton?
- Kinda wondering if it’s better to just pay for a tow when (if?) it happens, instead of paying extra every month for coverage that barely helps.
- Anyone ever actually use the “trip interruption” part? Some plans mention it but I can’t tell if it’s just another thing that sounds good but never really pays out.
- Not sure if I trust these companies to actually help when you’re stranded... feels like there’s always a catch.

Guess I’ll keep reading the fine print, but man, it’s a lot to take in.
