Maybe I should just stick to stock stuff and save the drama... but where’s the fun in that?

Honestly, half my clients have “creative” anti-theft setups and then forget how they work. I’ve seen more than one roadside tech baffled by a mystery switch or relay. At least you got a good story out of it... and maybe a little rainwater in your socks.

Stock is boring, but getting stranded because you forgot which toggle flips the fuel pump? That’s a special kind of excitement. I totally get the temptation though—half the fun is tinkering, right? But then you get that “uhhhh...” moment when the tow guy’s poking around and you’re trying to remember if it was the blue wire or the red one you were supposed to ground.

Been there, done that, got the soggy shoes to prove it. I tried to outsmart car thieves once with a hidden kill switch, but ended up locking myself out of my own car... twice. Guess that’s what I get for overthinking it.

Honestly, I’m still not sure what’s more embarrassing—calling roadside for a flat, or for a “my car won’t start because I forgot my own anti-theft trick” situation. At least we get stories out of it.

Honestly, I get the appeal of adding custom switches and anti-theft gadgets, but I lean toward keeping things simple—especially if you’re relying on roadside help like Progressive’s. The more non-standard stuff you add, the harder it gets for anyone else to help when you’re stuck. I’ve seen friends spend more on “fixing” their own mods than they ever saved by deterring thieves. Sometimes, boring stock is just... less stressful.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to think about adding all sorts of anti-theft stuff, but honestly, the idea of getting stranded and having a tow guy scratch his head over my “improvements” stresses me out way more than the thought of someone stealing my car. I’d rather have peace of mind knowing help can actually help, you know? Stock might not be flashy, but it’s reliable.

Had a similar thought process after my old Civic got a kill switch. Seemed clever until the battery died and the roadside guy just stared at the mess of wires I’d “improved.” Took twice as long to get going again. I get wanting extra security, but honestly, I’d rather have stuff that’s easy to fix or jump in a pinch. Stock isn’t exciting, but it’s predictable, and sometimes that’s worth more than bells and whistles.
