- Totally get the worry about hiding keys—my neighbor did the same magnetic box thing and ended up having to file a police report. Not worth the risk, honestly.

- As for pre-scheduling roadside help, I’ve used Progressive’s app a couple times. Here’s what I noticed:
- If you know you’ll need a tow at a certain time (like after work), it’s handy to set it up in advance.
- Didn’t really feel like it sped things up much, though. The tow truck still took about 45 minutes, which is pretty standard in my area.
- The app does make it easier to track where the driver is, so you’re not left guessing.

- For me, the main perk is not having to call and explain everything when you’re already stressed. Just tap a few buttons and wait.

- Not sure it’s a game-changer, but it beats sitting on hold or fumbling with paperwork on the side of the road. If you’re already paying for roadside, might as well use every feature they offer... just don’t expect miracles.

I’ve seen a lot of folks surprised by how much insurance apps can actually do now. I remember when roadside meant digging through the glovebox for that little card and hoping you had the right number. The app’s not perfect, but being able to skip the phone call is a huge plus, especially if you’re stuck somewhere awkward. One thing I’d add—sometimes the ETA updates aren’t super accurate, so I still keep my phone handy just in case. But yeah, if you’re already paying for it, might as well use every shortcut they give you.

Right? The days of fishing around for that crumpled card are mostly behind us. I still jot the number down on a sticky note in my glovebox, just in case tech fails me. One tip—if you’ve got an older ride like my ’72 Chevelle, I recommend snapping a pic of your VIN and insurance card in your phone too. You never know when you’ll need the info fast. The ETA thing gets me too, but at least you can track the truck instead of just hoping someone’s actually on the way.

Definitely agree about having backups. I keep a paper copy of my insurance in the glovebox too—old habits die hard, I guess. Had my phone die on me once in the middle of nowhere, and that backup saved me a headache. The app’s handy, but I still don’t trust tech 100%. Tracking the truck is a nice touch though, way better than just waiting and hoping.

I get the whole backup thing, but honestly, I ditched the paper copies a while ago. If my phone dies, worst case, I just wait for a cop to look me up or call the insurance company from another phone. Paper just gets crumpled or lost for me. I do agree about tracking the truck, though—that’s actually useful, unlike half the stuff these apps try to do.
