Finally figured out how car insurance works in no-fault states

Dashcams definitely have their perks, but I wouldn't rely on them completely. A couple years back, I got rear-ended at a stoplight—totally not my fault, obviously—but the other driver tried to spin it differently. Luckily, my dashcam footage cleared things up pretty quickly. Saved me a ton of hassle and probably some money too.

Still, I wouldn't say they're foolproof. I've heard stories where dashcam footage actually complicated things because it caught minor mistakes the driver didn't even realize they made. So yeah, they're helpful, but you still gotta stay alert and cautious. Personally, I keep mine running all the time, but I also make sure I'm driving defensively and following traffic rules closely. The insurance discount is nice, but avoiding accidents altogether is even better... especially when you're budgeting for those weekend getaways.

Totally get what you're saying about dashcams catching your own slip-ups. Mine once recorded me singing embarrassingly loud to 80s hits—thankfully, insurance didn't need THAT footage. But yeah, defensive driving beats dashcam drama any day...especially when weekend funds are at stake.

Haha, been there with the dashcam embarrassment. Here's my foolproof method for dealing with dashcam anxiety:

Step 1: Forget the dashcam is there.
Step 2: Proceed to sing loudly (bonus points if off-key) or have animated conversations with yourself.
Step 3: Remember dashcam exists right after doing something questionable—like accidentally running a stale yellow or making that sketchy lane change.
Step 4: Briefly panic about insurance seeing footage of you belting out "Livin' on a Prayer" while barely making the intersection.
Step 5: Realize insurance probably won't care about your karaoke skills, just your driving.

But seriously, I agree defensive driving is key. Dashcams are great backup, but avoiding the drama altogether saves money and sanity. Learned this the hard way after one too many speeding tickets ate into my pizza-and-beer fund... priorities, right?

Haha, love your dashcam coping strategy!

"Realize insurance probably won't care about your karaoke skills, just your driving."

Spot on—trust me, insurers have seen it all, and off-key Bon Jovi renditions barely make the highlight reel. But seriously, defensive driving really is the best policy. Dashcams might help settle disputes quicker in no-fault states, but avoiding sketchy lane changes or chasing stale yellows saves you way more than just pizza money... (though pizza IS important). Just keep singing safe out there.

Dashcams are definitely helpful, but I wonder if insurers actually give discounts for having one installed... or is it just a peace-of-mind thing? Curious if anyone's gotten a lower premium because of their dashcam.
