Free Coffee’s Not Nothing, Though
I get the whole “perks are a distraction” angle, but honestly, sometimes a free coffee on a Monday morning is the only thing standing between me and a meltdown. I mean, sure, coverage matters most, but if two companies are neck-and-neck, why not go with the one that throws in a little treat? I actually switched once for movie tickets and, weirdly, the service was just as good. Maybe I’m just easily bribed by caffeine, though...

I get that. I mean, when I was comparing policies last year, the deciding factor was honestly the free roadside assistance. Not exactly coffee, but with two kids in the backseat, that peace of mind (plus a free coffee voucher once in a while) actually tipped the scales for me. Perks aren’t everything, but they do make the boring stuff a bit more tolerable.
I get the appeal of perks, but I usually dig a little deeper before letting freebies sway me. A few things I look at:
- Actual claim process—some companies are way smoother than others, and that matters more when things go sideways.
- Renewal hikes. Sometimes the ones with flashy extras sneak in bigger increases later.
- Customer service—free coffee’s nice, but a real person on the line when you’re stranded is better.
Perks are cool, but I’d rather have a hassle-free experience when it counts. The extras are just... extras.
Would You Stick With Your Insurer for Free Coffee or Movie Tickets?
I’m new to this whole insurance thing, and honestly, the perks almost got me. I mean, who doesn’t want free coffee? But then I started reading the fine print (which, by the way, is basically a novel), and realized that a free latte won’t help much if my car’s stuck on the side of the road and nobody’s picking up the phone.
I did get a little excited about the movie tickets, though. For a second, I thought, “Hey, maybe insurance isn’t so boring after all.” But then my friend told me about her nightmare claim process—she got the runaround for weeks, and the only thing she got for free was a headache.
I guess I’d rather have someone actually answer the phone when I need help, even if it means missing out on a few cappuccinos. Perks are fun, but I’d rather not gamble with the important stuff. Maybe I’ll just buy my own coffee and call it a day...

Yeah, that’s where I’m at too. Perks are cool and all, but if I’m stranded, I’d rather have someone actually answer. Free coffee’s nice, but not worth a headache (or a tow bill).
