Ever had to actually use your rental coverage, or is it more peace of mind than anything else?
I’ve actually had to use mine once, after a fender bender left my car in the shop for almost two weeks. Honestly, I was relieved I didn’t have to scramble for rides or bug friends. For me, it’s the “sleep better at night” kind of coverage—especially since my luck with cars isn’t exactly stellar. But yeah, if you barely drive or have a backup, maybe it’s not as crucial... just depends how much risk you’re comfortable with, I guess.
Had to use rental coverage once when my car got rear-ended and needed repairs. Didn’t love the hassle, but it saved me from missing work. I’d rather pay a bit extra for that peace of mind, honestly. Not everyone needs it, but I wouldn’t skip it.
Rental coverage is one of those things you don’t really think about until you’re stuck without a car. I used to think it was just another way for insurance to squeeze more money out of you, honestly. Then last semester, my car got sideswiped in the parking lot and the shop said it’d take a week to fix. I didn’t have rental coverage at the time and had to bum rides off friends or take the bus everywhere. Total pain, especially with my class schedule all over the place.
I get why some people skip it, but after that mess, I added it to my policy. It’s not that much extra, and I’d rather not be stranded again. I guess it’s one of those things that seems pointless until you actually need it. Still, I wish insurance companies didn’t make you pay for every little add-on. Feels like they nickel-and-dime you for stuff that should just be included.
Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to skip rental coverage too, figured I’d just deal if something happened. But when my car was in the shop after a fender bender, juggling work and errands without wheels was a headache. The small monthly cost is worth it for the peace of mind. Still, I wish more of these basics were standard instead of add-ons... feels like insurance should cover the essentials by default, not just the bare minimum.

- 100% agree, but insurance companies love their fine print.
- Rental coverage feels like paying extra for air on your tires... but I caved after a road trip left me stranded for two days when my car got rear-ended.
- Still skeptical about all the add-ons, but sometimes you just gotta pick your battles (and your coverage).
- Wish they’d bundle the basics instead of nickel-and-diming us.
