I’ve always wondered if those stories about tickets getting tossed are real, too. My cousin swears his got dismissed because the officer didn’t show, but I’ve never seen it happen myself. Is it just luck, or does having a clean record help? Insurance companies definitely care either way...

I’ve heard those stories too, and honestly, I think it’s a mix of luck and timing. A clean record definitely helps if you’re hoping for leniency, but there’s no guarantee. I had a ticket once where the officer didn’t show, and it got tossed—felt like winning the lottery. Insurance companies still seem to find out about almost everything, though... they don’t miss much. Keeping your record clean is always the safest bet in my book.

That’s wild—felt the same way when my ticket got dropped because of a paperwork error. Still, I swear insurance companies have some kind of sixth sense for this stuff. Even when I thought I was in the clear, my premium nudged up a bit the next year. Has anyone actually seen their rates go down after a few years with no tickets or claims? Or does it just kinda level off after a while?

Honestly, mine never really dropped much. I went three years squeaky clean—no tickets, no fender benders—and the best I got was a tiny discount that barely covered coffee for a week. Feels like they just stop raising it instead of actually lowering it, you know? My cousin switched companies and saw a bigger drop, but sticking with the same place, it just flatlined. Maybe it’s different if you hop around, but loyalty didn’t pay off for me.

That’s been my experience too, but I’ll admit my record’s not spotless. Had a couple of speeding tickets a few years back, and even after driving clean for a while, the rates barely budged. It’s like the best you can hope for is they don’t jack it up again. I tried switching companies once, thinking maybe a fresh start would help, but the new place still saw my history and didn’t offer much better.

Honestly, the only time I saw a real drop was when I qualified for a specific discount—like your cousin with the military thing. Otherwise, it’s just a slow crawl back to “normal,” whatever that is. Loyalty discounts? Never saw much from those either. Maybe if you’ve got a perfect record for decades, but for folks like me, it’s just about damage control.
