is accident forgiveness really worth it in Ohio?

I see your point, but I think it really depends on your situation. I've handled claims for years, and I've seen accident forgiveness save some folks from pretty hefty rate hikes—especially if they're unlucky enough to have more than one incident in a short period. But you're right, insurance companies aren't charities. They're definitely making money off these add-ons.

One thing I'd wonder about though... how long does the minor accident stay on your record in Ohio? If it's just a year or two of slightly higher rates, maybe it's not a big deal. But if it's hanging around longer, that could change things. Also, does anyone know if accident forgiveness resets after you use it once, or is it a one-time deal per policy? That might make a difference in deciding whether it's worth paying extra each month.

Good points raised here. From what I've seen, minor accidents usually stick around for about three years in Ohio, but it can vary a bit depending on your insurer. Accident forgiveness seems handy, but I'm also curious—does using it affect your eligibility for other discounts down the line? If it does, that might offset some of the savings you'd get from avoiding a rate hike. Anyone have experience with that?

That's a really insightful question. From my experience working with clients here in Ohio, accident forgiveness usually doesn't directly impact your eligibility for other discounts. However, insurers sometimes factor in your overall risk profile when offering certain perks or loyalty discounts later on. Had a client last year who used accident forgiveness after a fender-bender—didn't lose any existing discounts, but noticed fewer new offers popping up afterward. So yeah, it's worth weighing carefully...

Yeah, good point—I wondered about that too. I've had accident forgiveness on my policy for years and haven't needed it yet (knock on wood...). But a buddy of mine did use his after a minor accident. He didn't lose any discounts outright, but he mentioned his renewal rate still crept up slightly afterward. Makes me wonder if insurers find subtle ways to balance things out anyway? Seems like there's always a catch somewhere.

Yeah, I've wondered the same thing. Insurance companies aren't charities—they've gotta make money somehow, right? Still, accident forgiveness might soften the blow enough to make it worthwhile. Had a friend whose premium barely budged after a fender-bender, but who knows if that's typical... Either way, hope you never have to test yours out!
