I've thought about this quite a bit myself, and I think it really depends on your personal comfort level with risk. Sure, you've had just one minor accident in 20 years—which is pretty good—but accidents are unpredictable by nature. For example, my brother-in-law had a spotless record for over 15 years, then got rear-ended by someone texting. Even though it wasn't his fault, his rates still climbed a bit initially until things got sorted out.

For me, accident forgiveness is more of a peace-of-mind thing. If you're the kind of person who worries about unexpected expenses or rate hikes, it can be worth the extra few bucks per month. But if you're financially comfortable and disciplined enough to handle a temporary rate increase without stress, you might be fine without it.

I'm curious—does anyone know if certain insurance companies in Ohio offer discounts or incentives for long-term safe driving that might offset the cost of accident forgiveness? That could make a difference in deciding if it's worthwhile...

Yeah, insurance companies can be pretty ruthless like that. Reminds me of when I got sideswiped by a delivery truck downtown—clearly not my fault, but my rates still jumped temporarily. Accident forgiveness might've cushioned that blow, but honestly, I still wonder if paying extra every month for years beforehand would've balanced out. Anyone here ever crunched the numbers long-term to see if accident forgiveness actually pays off?

I've wondered about this too. Had a minor fender-bender a few years back—totally my fault, unfortunately—and my rates jumped noticeably. Didn't have accident forgiveness at the time, but afterward I looked into it and honestly wasn't convinced. The extra monthly cost seemed small at first glance, but when I multiplied it out over several years, it added up to more than what my premium increase was after the accident. Maybe it's different if you have multiple drivers or teens on your policy? Or maybe it's just peace of mind you're paying for... Has anyone actually seen a clear financial benefit from accident forgiveness, or is it mostly just marketing hype?

I get why you're skeptical—accident forgiveness isn't always a slam dunk financially. A few years ago, my teenage daughter backed into our neighbor's mailbox (classic, right?), and thankfully we had accident forgiveness. Our rates didn't budge, which was a relief. But honestly, if it had just been me on the policy, I'm not sure the math would've worked out in our favor. Seems like it's more beneficial if you've got younger or multiple drivers...otherwise, yeah, might just be paying extra for peace of mind.

Yeah, that's been my experience too. When I was single and driving solo, I skipped accident forgiveness entirely—felt like throwing money away. But now with two teens behind the wheel (and trust me, they've tested my patience AND our insurance), it's saved us a couple times. Still, makes me wonder...is it mostly just a marketing gimmick for cautious drivers who rarely even need it?
