I hear you about those rate hikes sticking around - my cousin still grumbles about her “one little fender bender” from, like, three years ago. I’m just getting my first policy and honestly, the price tags on every little add-on make me feel like I’m ordering a burger and they’re charging extra for ketchup. But then again, knowing my luck, I’ll probably back into a mailbox in week one. Has anyone actually used accident forgiveness and had it save their wallet, or is it mostly just a nice idea on paper?

Is Accident Forgiveness Really Worth It In Ohio?

- Honestly, I’ve seen accident forgiveness help a few folks dodge a big rate jump after a minor scrape, but it’s not always a slam dunk.
- Some companies only let you use it once, and you usually have to be claim-free for a while before it even kicks in.
- The extra cost can add up over the years if you never use it… kind of like paying for a gym membership you never go to.
- Curious - has anyone actually had their rates *not* go up after using it, or did the insurer find another way to sneak in a price hike?

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve had accident forgiveness on my policy for years, and honestly, it’s a bit of a gamble. Used it once after a fender bender - my rate didn’t jump, but the next renewal, they “adjusted” my premium for other reasons. Felt like they just found another way to get their money. Still, it gave me peace of mind at the time. If you’re prone to small mishaps or just want that safety net, it’s not the worst add-on, but yeah, it’s not a magic shield either.

Honestly, I’ve always wondered if it’s just a marketing trick. I pay a premium for my car, so I’m picky about add-ons. If they’re gonna hike my rate anyway after “forgiving” me, what’s the point? Do they ever actually let stuff slide, or is it just a delay tactic?

I’ve been staring at these insurance add-ons like I’m reading the fine print on a magic trick. Accident forgiveness sounds cool in theory, but I keep thinking it’s like those “unlimited breadsticks” at Olive Garden - sounds generous, but you end up paying for it somewhere else.

I just got my first policy and the agent pitched accident forgiveness like it was a golden ticket. But then I read the part where, if you actually use it, your rates might still go up later... just not right away. So, it’s like, “Hey, we won’t punish you now, but don’t get too comfy.” Makes me wonder if it’s just a way to keep me from shopping around after a fender bender.

I haven’t had to test it out (knock on wood), but my cousin did. She got in a minor scrape, and her insurer “forgave” her first accident. Her rate didn’t jump immediately, but a year later, during renewal, it crept up anyway. Not a huge hike, but enough to make her question if it was worth the extra cost.

Honestly, unless you’re super accident-prone or just really unlucky, it kinda feels like paying for peace of mind that’s more about marketing than real forgiveness. I’d rather spend that cash on better snacks for my glove box. But hey, maybe it’s saved someone’s bacon out there... just not sure it’s worth the hype for most of us.
