Trying to figure out if it’s easier (or cheaper) to get SR-22 through a local North Dakota insurance agent versus just going with one of those big online companies. I’ve heard local agents might help more if you run into issues, but the online ones sometimes have lower prices? Anyone tried both and have a preference? Curious what actually worked for you, especially if you had any hiccups with the DMV or paperwork.

I’ve actually done both, and here’s what worked for me: I started with an online company because the quote was way cheaper. But when it came time to file the SR-22 with the ND DMV, there was a paperwork hiccup and it took forever to get someone on the phone. Ended up switching to a local agent—cost a bit more, but they handled everything fast and explained stuff in plain English. If you’re super tight on cash, online might save you a few bucks, but if you want less stress (especially if your record’s complicated), local is probably safer. Just my two cents.

Not gonna lie, I get the appeal of having someone local who can actually pronounce “SR-22” without sounding like a robot. But honestly, I had the opposite luck. The online company I used was super responsive—like, chat bubble popped up before I even finished typing my question. Maybe I just hit the jackpot with customer service that day, who knows.

I totally get that pain though. For me, the online route was smoother than expected. Didn’t have to take off work or drive across town, which is a win in my book (especially when gas is basically liquid gold). If your case isn’t super complicated and you’re okay with a little DIY, online can be way less hassle.

Guess it just depends how much you trust your luck... or your patience.

Honestly, I’m with you on the gas thing—driving across town just to sign a form feels like a waste, especially if you’re pinching pennies. I tried calling a local agent once and got stuck in hold music purgatory, so I get the frustration. But yeah, online worked for me too. I guess it’s one of those “your mileage may vary” situations. If you’re comfortable figuring stuff out yourself, online seems way less stressful (and cheaper). Still, I can see why some folks want that face-to-face reassurance, especially if paperwork freaks them out.

Title: Which Is Better For SR-22 In ND: Local Agents Or Online Companies?

I get the appeal of online—no waiting rooms, no awkward small talk, just click and go. But I’ll admit, when I needed the SR-22 for my old ’72 Torino (long story involving a parking lot mishap), my local agent actually caught a paperwork error that would’ve messed up my DMV filing. Maybe I’m old school, but sometimes having someone who knows your name pays off. Still, the online quotes were tempting. Guess it depends how much you trust yourself to catch the fine print.
