Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from with this. I'm shopping around for my first insurance policy right now, and those tracking apps seemed tempting at first—saving money is always appealing. But after hearing your experience, especially with a classic car, I'm having second thoughts. It makes sense they'd be calibrated for newer vehicles with ABS and traction control systems. My budget is tight, and every penny counts, but I'd rather pay a little extra upfront than deal with constant headaches and unfair penalties. Honestly, the whole point of owning a classic is enjoying the drive without worrying about tech limitations or getting dinged by some app that doesn't understand older cars. Appreciate you sharing this—it helps me narrow down my options. Maybe sticking to traditional policies from local agents who actually understand classics might be the smarter move...

Yeah, those apps can be tricky. I tried one briefly and felt like it dinged me every time I braked normally at a yellow light...made me paranoid instead of safer. Maybe better off with a local agent who actually gets your ride?

Yeah, I hear you on that paranoia factor...tried one of those apps myself a while back and felt like I was driving with my grandma in the passenger seat judging every move. Honestly, a local agent might be the way to go—someone who actually knows your driving style and can vouch for you personally. Big companies have their perks, but sometimes that personal touch makes all the difference when you're dealing with insurance headaches. Worth giving it a shot, at least.

I've been with both big companies and local agents over the years, and honestly, the local route saved me a ton of hassle after a minor fender bender. Still, do you think local agents can always offer competitive rates compared to the bigger guys?

I've been lurking around this thread for a bit, trying to soak up some wisdom since I'm about to buy insurance for the first time. Honestly, I get why local agents seem appealing—personal touch, easier claims, someone who actually remembers your name... sounds great. But I'm not totally convinced they're always the best deal financially.

My older brother went local after his first accident because he liked the idea of having someone nearby to talk to face-to-face. It worked out fine at first, but when renewal time came around, his rates jumped quite a bit. He shopped around and ended up switching back to one of the bigger companies because they offered him a significantly lower premium. So, while local agents might be awesome for customer service and convenience, I'm not sure they're consistently competitive on price—especially if you're considered a higher-risk driver.

I guess it depends on what matters most to you. If you're someone who values convenience and personal relationships over saving every possible dollar, then yeah, local might be your best bet. But if you're like me (and my wallet), you might want to at least compare quotes from both sides before committing. Seems like the big guys have more wiggle room sometimes, especially with discounts or bundling options.

Just my two cents as someone who's still figuring this all out...
