Yeah, you're definitely onto something there. When I first insured my '67 Mustang, I went local because the agent was a fellow car nut—thought that personal connection would help. And honestly, it did at first. But when I had a minor fender-bender (classic cars attract trouble, I swear), things got messy pretty quick. Friendly chats didn’t exactly translate into smooth claims handling. Still, don’t let my horror story scare you off; just trust your gut and keep asking questions...you're already doing great research.

Yeah, that's exactly what worries me. Personal connections are nice, but when push comes to shove, will they really have your back? I'd probably lean toward a bigger name just for peace of mind...but maybe that's just me being overly cautious.

Totally get where you're coming from—big names do offer some reassurance. But keep in mind:

- Bigger doesn't always mean smoother claims; bureaucracy can slow things down.
- Local agents sometimes have more flexibility to find budget-friendly options.
- Always check reviews on claims handling specifically, not just friendliness.

Good points, especially about checking claims reviews. I'd also add:

- Ask around locally—friends or family who've had claims can give you the real scoop.
- Don't rule out smaller companies completely; sometimes they're surprisingly quick and easy to deal with.
- And yeah, big names feel safer, but I've seen them drag their feet too...

Had a claim with one of the "big guys" last year and honestly, wasn't impressed. Took ages to get things moving, tons of paperwork, felt like they were looking for reasons not to pay. Switched to a smaller local outfit recently, and while their rates aren't amazing (high-risk life, right?), at least I can actually reach someone on the phone without waiting half the day.

One thing I'm still wondering though—is it worth paying extra for an agent nearby who knows you personally? Or is that just throwing money away...? Seems like it might help when things go sideways, but I've never tried it. Curious if anyone here's had better luck going that route.
