I've handled claims with both companies over the years, and honestly, your experience with Progressive sounds pretty typical. They're generally efficient with smaller claims—especially the straightforward stuff like minor scrapes or dents. Geico isn't bad either, but from what I've seen, their claims process can sometimes feel a bit more impersonal or rushed, especially in busy areas like NY.

If you're new to insurance and want a smoother experience, Progressive might indeed be worth the slightly higher premium. But I'd also suggest looking into customer reviews specifically from your area, since local offices or adjusters can make a big difference. Also, consider how comfortable you are handling things online versus speaking directly to someone—Progressive's online tools are pretty user-friendly, but some folks prefer Geico's phone support.

Either way, you're not likely to go terribly wrong with these two. Just depends on your priorities—saving a bit upfront or having a smoother claims experience down the road.

Yeah, I'd second what you're saying about Progressive's online tools being pretty solid. Had a minor fender-bender last winter, and their app made things easy. Geico isn't terrible, but I've heard mixed things from friends in NYC—definitely feels rushed sometimes... guess it depends on luck too.

Gotta say, my experience with Geico was actually pretty smooth in NYC. Had a minor scrape last year, and they handled it quickly without any hassle. Progressive's app is solid, sure, but I wouldn't discount Geico just because of a few anecdotes. Honestly, the bigger issue in NY is coverage limits and how responsive they are when things get messy—always worth double-checking policy details carefully before committing.

I've dealt with claims from both Geico and Progressive in NY, and honestly, they're both pretty decent overall. But I'd echo this point:

"Honestly, the bigger issue in NY is coverage limits and how responsive they are when things get messy..."

That's really key. People often overlook the fine print until something actually happens. Geico tends to be straightforward and quick with smaller claims, but Progressive sometimes has a slight edge in customer service when things get complicated—at least from what I've seen. Still, it varies case by case.

My advice? Don't just compare premiums or apps; take a close look at their policy details—especially liability limits and deductibles. You'd be surprised how much those little differences matter when you're dealing with an actual accident or claim situation. Either way, you're probably fine, but it's worth the extra 10 minutes to read carefully before signing up...

Totally agree with you on checking the fine print—especially liability limits. As someone who's had a couple of "oops" moments behind the wheel (high-risk driver here, unfortunately), I can tell you firsthand that coverage details really matter when things hit the fan.

This matches my experience too. Geico was super efficient when I had a minor fender-bender—no fuss, quick payout. But when I had a more complicated accident with multiple cars involved, Progressive's adjuster seemed way more patient and helpful in sorting out the mess. They explained everything clearly and didn't rush me through the process.

Also, don't underestimate how much your driving record can affect your premiums down the line. Progressive has been slightly more forgiving for me personally, but your mileage may vary (literally, haha). Either way, definitely worth spending a few extra minutes comparing those policy details closely...
