"Progressive usually has clearer processes, especially for smaller stuff like mirrors or fender benders... seems less stressful for customers overall."

Interesting you mention that about Progressive—I had a minor fender bender last year (totally my fault, rookie mistake backing out of a tight parking spot 🙄), and I was honestly surprised how smooth the whole process went. At first, I was pretty anxious since it was my first accident and I had no clue what to expect. But Progressive's app made everything straightforward—just snapped a few pics, uploaded them, and within a day someone reached out to walk me through next steps. The repair shop they recommended was solid too, quick turnaround and zero hassle.

On the other hand, my cousin uses Geico here in NYC and had a mixed experience. Her car got sideswiped while parked—classic city problem—and she said Geico was helpful initially but then dragged their feet a bit on approving repairs. She ended up waiting longer than expected, which was frustrating since she relies heavily on her car for work.

I guess it really does depend on the specific situation and maybe even luck sometimes? But based on what I've seen, I'd lean towards Progressive if you're looking for something straightforward and stress-free, especially if you're still getting comfortable behind the wheel like me. Curious though, has anyone else found Geico easier to deal with in NY for different types of claims? Seems like location and circumstances definitely play a big role...

Haha, we've all been there—parking lots are basically obstacle courses sometimes. Glad Progressive made it easy for you. Honestly, from my experience, both companies can be hit or miss depending on the adjuster and the claim specifics. But yeah, Progressive's app definitely streamlines things nicely. Sounds like you handled your first claim like a pro... welcome to the club!

Backing out of tight spots is always tricky, especially when you've got impatient drivers waiting behind you... been there myself more than once. Honestly, I've had good experiences with Progressive too—claims tend to move pretty smoothly. Geico isn't bad either, but their customer service can feel a bit impersonal at times. At the end of the day, it's about who makes the stressful moments easier, and sounds like Progressive did right by you this time. Good job handling it calmly, btw.

Backing out in tight spaces can definitely be nerve-wracking, especially when you sense the impatience from drivers behind you. Good on you for keeping your cool—it's not always easy.

I've worked with clients who've had experiences with both Progressive and Geico, and honestly, both have their strengths. Progressive does tend to handle claims efficiently, which is a huge plus when you're already stressed from an accident or incident. Geico, on the other hand, can sometimes offer slightly lower premiums, but you're right about their customer service—it can feel a bit distant and transactional at times.

From a practical standpoint, it really comes down to what you value most. If you're budget-conscious and looking to trim costs, Geico might edge out slightly ahead in terms of monthly savings. But if peace of mind and smoother interactions during stressful moments matter more to you, Progressive seems like the better fit based on your experience.

A quick tip: if you haven't already, consider checking if either company offers discounts for bundling home or renter's insurance, or even for safe driving programs. Those little savings can add up and make your decision easier.

Either way, sounds like you're handling this thoughtfully and calmly—exactly the right approach when dealing with insurance decisions. Good luck with whichever you choose.

I'm in the same boat right now—first time buying insurance and honestly, it's a bit overwhelming. My cousin swears by Geico because it's cheaper, but then again, he's never actually had to file a claim (knock on wood). Progressive sounds tempting if they're easier to deal with when things go sideways. Might just flip a coin at this point...or maybe I'll just park my car forever and avoid the whole thing altogether, lol.
