Rental coverage always felt pointless to me, too—I drive my old Chevy maybe once a week. But roadside? That’s saved my bacon more than once, especially when I locked myself out at a rest stop upstate. Not every plan covers that, though... Gotta read the fine print, which is a pain.

I hear you on the rental coverage—if your car barely leaves the driveway, it just feels like tossing money out the window. Roadside, though, that's a different story. I had a flat in the middle of nowhere last winter and was real glad I had it. Between Geico and Progressive, did you notice if either one actually covers lockouts or just towing? Some of those "roadside" add-ons are pretty barebones... kinda sneaky. Have you compared what they actually include, or is it all just marketing fluff?

Had a similar debate last year when I was shopping around. Geico’s roadside actually helped me out with a dead battery, but they only covered up to $100 for the service—anything over, I had to pay out of pocket. Progressive seemed a bit more generous on paper, but when I dug into the details, their lockout coverage was capped pretty low too. Neither one really covers everything, and you’re right, the “roadside” label is kinda misleading. I ended up keeping AAA for peace of mind... insurance roadside just felt too limited for my taste.

I’ve bounced between both in NY. Geico’s roadside left me hanging when my car wouldn’t start in the middle of nowhere—had to pay extra for the tow. Honestly, I just stick with AAA now. The insurance roadside stuff always feels half-baked.

Stuck Between Geico and Progressive in NY, Thoughts?

I get the frustration with insurance roadside. But am I the only one who’s had the opposite luck? I’ve actually had Progressive’s roadside come through for me twice—once when my battery died in a Target parking lot (of course, right after buying ice cream), and another time when I locked my keys in the car at a rest stop. Both times, they showed up faster than I expected. Maybe it’s just a roll of the dice depending on where you break down?

I do hear you on AAA, though. Their coverage is solid, but I always end up forgetting to renew until I’m already stranded somewhere. Plus, isn’t it kind of wild that we pay for roadside through insurance and then end up paying for AAA anyway? Feels like paying for two gym memberships and still never going.

Curious if anyone’s actually had Geico’s roadside work out well for them. I’ve only used their regular claims process, which was fine, but never needed a tow or jump from them. Is it just a NY thing where they’re slow, or is it everywhere? Also, does anyone else get those weird “discounts” for bundling roadside with your policy, but then it barely covers anything? Makes me wonder if it’s worth it at all.

Maybe I’m just lucky with Progressive, or maybe my car just likes to break down in convenient places. Either way, I’m not ready to write off insurance roadside completely... yet.
